TimeBanks USA is the national organization for TimeBanking, and is run by the original founder and creator of TimeBanking in the US.
After a lot of internal work, TBUSA prepared a multi-page document detailing exactly what they wanted their new website do to, and I love when projects start with such clear visions and intent.
We came up with a tight wireframe, and design focused on purpose and action, and a lot of modern, clean, flat design elements that keep the spotlight on the content and the mission, and a responsive framework that looks great on any device. This was one of my favorite designs ever.
With weekly scheduled calls a break for the holidays in the middle, we were on the last lap when we found out that ABC News we going to do a report on TimeBanking on 1/15/14. So, that last lap became a mad sprint, including multi-hour conference calls with on-the-fly web coding just a couple hours of sleep for yours truly as the sun was coming up.
But it was worth it.
We moved the site to live — doing QA at a fast-break pace via email and instant messaging while the site moved from my development server to a super-pipe server that was designed to handle a flood of visitors.
And even THAT wasn’t enough.
The crush of people coming to the site was humbling. At one point, there were 83 pages being served each SECOND. Time and time again the website became unavailable, back up, unavailable — as each time the show aired in each new time zone more and more people came calling.
By the end of the night, thousands and thousands of people around the United States signed up to join a TimeBank near them.
All those people, hungry for the New Story.
I am so proud and grateful to have been able to witness it happening.
