Orbit Media Studios, a Chicago-based website development (and more) shop, does really amazing work. As I continue to sharpen my skills, their portfolio and philosophy serves as sort of a benchmark for me. I try to model a lot of what I do on their design principles, and now they’ve posted a new blog from Andy Crestodina that not only provides 6 really good tips, they also brought the science behind it.
The tips, ranging from navigation bar organization to color theory, represent some things I already knew, some that were new to me, and some that I need to add on my website ASAP. In all cases, they are really well researched.
Read the blog here. If you are interested in web design theory and best practices in the industry, I highly recommend subscribing to their blog.
I am a firm believer in the science behind design, especially if your website targets a large audience. Everyone wants a distinctive website, and that is right and good. But building a website in a unique way that still connects with the pre-established expectations of your visitors is the real trick, and Orbit does a great job with that.
Now you can see why.
