Why I Hate GoDaddy
GoDaddy is gone.
I have been using them since around 2001 to handle everything from domains to hosting to shopping carts and more.
But this story really bothered me. CEO Bob Parsons goes to Africa every year and kills elephants. No matter how many ways he has spun it, I just can’t be a part of that organization. He did not do anything illegal, but I don’t want this guy getting any more of my money.
So, I have methodically been moving all of my business off GoDaddy since. One of my domains, perhaps my most important one, got hung up for months. But tonight it is free.
The experience was cathartic. I learned a bit about a process that I was rather ignorant about. I think part of the reason I was with GoDaddy for so long is that I did not want to bother with it all; it worked, so I stayed, and paid my monthly bill.
Isn’t that how it is supposed to work?
It is. Until you go elephant hunting. Then, ICANN tend to get a little disgusted with you.
